Cyndi || 29 || Australia
I'm a 29 year old Primary Education Student from Australia. I spent a year living and working as an Au Pair with Cultural Care in Boston, MA in 2011/12. Currently I am focusing on finishing my final semester of university before I graduate as a teacher.I love to travel, to have adventures, to meet new people, try new things, and write. I blog about food, music, funny things kids do and say, trips, new experiences, my observations, and sometimes totally random junk. Sometimes I take photos of people in bad-taste clothing and blog about them.
I love kids, cooking, running, AFL, pop music, the handful of people that make my world a better place to be, and my special teddy, Ted.
Follow me as I blog about my day to day life travelling and looking after kids!

The year that was [my au pair year in photos]
Most of you probably didn’t notice, but I failed to post my annual humble brag letter this year. In all the craziness of the last few months, I never felt the drive, not the need to write one. Usually I … Continue reading
American Easter [in the lead up] and my recipe for Australian Hot Cross Buns
American’s are crazy about holidays. You can buy greeting cards in this country for holidays that I didn’t even knew exist, or at least I didn’t think were worthy of greeting cards. I mean, really, people send greeting cards for … Continue reading
Au Pair Taxes – who, what, when, how, why?
April is “tax time”. The American tax year runs from January 01 until December 31 (unlike the Australian tax year that runs 1 July through to 30 June). Disclaimer: This is just a math calculation and does not actually qualify … Continue reading
Au Pair FAQ’s (from the view of an Au Pair) – 16 COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
As a foreword to this post, I get a LOT of questions about au pairing, the Cultural Care Au Pair program, and everything to do with it. A lot of the same questions are asked over and over, and so … Continue reading
Looking back [reflecting on 6 months in the USA]
My advice on rematching…
Every day I am here I hear of another au pair going into rematch (where either the au pair or the family, or both in some cases, decide not to continue on with the match, and the au pair is … Continue reading
BOUNCE BACK from Homesickness…
After only 4 weeks here my host mom has discovered the procrastinator in me when it comes to uni work – tonight I “clocked off” (as us Aussie’s say) at 6pm, but managed to spend 2 hours longer playing with the … Continue reading
A day in the life… [au pairing preschooler style]
One of the main differences between me and a lot of the girls in the au pair program is that I have been nannying at home in Australia for nearly the last 4 years in some shape or form, so … Continue reading
What to expect in your first month! [Advice for new Au Pair’s]
So for anyone about to become an au pair, or considering being an au pair, what should you expect in your first month as an au pair? I’ve been here 3 weeks now (wow!) and so here are some of … Continue reading
Dirty Chicken and 4 Days of Cake – Welcome to MA!
So today marks my one week anniversary of being in Massachusetts, so I guess I’m due for an update! Last Friday I caught a bus from the training school on Long Island with 35 other au pairs bound for northern … Continue reading
